Jobs Here One Day And Gone The Next

The more oil spilled, the more damage it does to the oceans, beaches and animals, the more money it costs to clean up and the more it affects the area’s economy.  Imagine being one of the fisher men in the area of an oil spill. Overnight your livelihood could be wiped out.  On day you could be bringing in a steady income and the next day have it stop. This has happened to many fishermen who have had an oil spill in their area. During the big BP Oil Spill last year around 200 million gallons of oil entered the ocean. 200 MILLION GALLONS. That is a lot. Imagine how many fish that effects, and how many fishing companies and fisher men it effects. Oil Spills like this cause fish to ingest the oil. Therefore fishing companies and fishermen can no longer catch and sell fish until the oil is cleaned up and they know the fish are not contaminated. Think of those who lose their jobs. How would you feel if an oil spill stopped you from making any money? I know I would be LIVID!    ~Chelsea

  1. I never really thought about how many jobs the oil spils affected. But I guess you're right, if the fish are contaminated, you can't really catch them, sell them, or eat them. So this affects many jobs, the fishermen, the stores that sell the fish, the restaurants that serve the fish, etc. All because of one oil spill. Probably millions of fish are killed or contaminated because of the chemicals. How is this fair? They didn't do anyhing, but the marine life are the ones having to suffer. Not that the humans don't, but marine life are actually becoming dead or contaminated, affecting the food chains. Why are oil spills still happening if people see how much they are affecting?
