Food Chain ?

Oil spills are damaging the environment. We use oil for so many things but so much is getting polluted into the water. Oil spills are really hurting the food chain, for example if birds got poisoned from the oil and died, the fish wouldn't have the bird for a predator so that would result for the fish to overpopulate.

Careless Mistakes

How would you feel if you were an animal caught in an oil spill? Millions of ocean animals die each year because of peoples mistakes letting oil into their habitat. When i look at this picture it makes me pretty upset to see how this bird is living and how much danger the oil is causing. The oil is so thick that the bird wont be able to fly, so it decides to clean it self but gets poisoned by the oil. Oil spills need to stop, people need to realize how much this is affecting everyone and start trying to save this from happening.

The Expense of this Spill

The environmental affects are killing all kinds of animals and plantlife. Economic affects on BP are remarkable they lost tons of stock and workers which totaled up to about 1,000,000,00$ that is INSANE they completely screwed their company. To know that they lost that much money is out of hand and the fact that there was no way to stop it makes it much worse.
Cam W

BP Messed Up HARD!!!

After this spill in the gulf BP lost most of its stock and its polluted so much they are having to pay even more. I dont think that they can do much about this but wait for it all to end. If i was the CEO of BP i would be soooooo stressed because of what happened throughout the timeline of the oil spill.

Oil Spills Wreck the Food Chain!

Once the oil gets skimmed, and burned off the watere all the oil isn't completely gone. The rest of the oil slowly floats down to the bottom of the ocean to kill other marine life. Once some types of fish are gone then the other animals down in the ocean will have nothing to eat and then they will die and it will elevate from there. Overall oil spills wreck the food chain!

zappitelli.cameron

Poor Duck

The oil that has spilled has caused animals in the water to get full of oil and possibly die.  I do not think the animals which are mostly ducks deserve this. The people who spilled the oil should try to clean up as many animals as the can so they don't die. Or they can just be more careful with the oil in the first place. It is very dissapointing thinking how that if the oil would not have spilled those ducks would still be flying high and free. How would you feel if you got covered in oil for no reason?

Cam.Z

Bird in oil spill.

This bird did not deserve this. I think the poeple who get the oil should be more careful because if they dont this is what can happen. Helpless animals dying at sea for waht? getting food to eat? The money that is being lost from this is bad because the oil could be used for better things. All the animals that are dying from this oil spill is even worse because this could have been avoided. If the oil did not spread I think the bird would have been flying free.

Eyes of Black and Water Of Blue, As I Spill More Oil Into You!

Does turning a blind eye make things any better for you ? Is being on the ouside and looking in onnly to ignore the detruction, working for you? The things we see and the things that are seen are two very different points of view. You can see with your eyes the destruction of the oil spill and dwindling natural resource but you can't feel it the way the people have truly seen it have. The people who have truly seen its affect, and understand the  need to fix it are the people that are willing to risk being scared of being looked at as a phny, someone blaming us for what nature caused. But who really causes the oil spills? Not treating this disaster such as a tornado makes sense but playing the blame game, and blaming things other then ourselves is wrong beyond belief.  Those people who are afraid to truly see will not be able to understand the need for help and closure, with those eyes of black, will never make a difference because they are so incredibly scared of guilt and, i don't know, blame! Our eyes are meant to see the world as it is and help what we can, but turning a blind eye to something we caused is a completely different scenario. They make it hard to follow the correct path, to save what we are losing. If saving what we are losing means losing only our pride, have we really got anything to lose at all. It may be hard to watch what we are truly doing, i understand, but is sitting and watching it over truly trying to help it get you anywhere but farther into the couch? Find a way to push past your inner guilt and blame and open up to what your eyes are supposed to see and open your mind to what your supposed to do with what you see.

Sucked Into The Black Hole Of Oil

Fish covered by oil and dead

Bird dead and covered in oil

Oil covered sea turtle

Sperm Whale dead because of oil

Oil causes marine animals and birds so much grief. The above pictures show you just how bad oil spills are for animals. The oil sticks to the aquatic animals and birds bodies and over time it gets sticker. This makes it very hard for them to survive and recover. Most oil floats on top of the water. Fish are attracted to the oil thinking it is food.  Then birds will want to eat the fish, sometimes having to dive through the oil slick. Digesting the fish that ate the oil and getting covered in it themselves. Larger fish and mammals also eat the small fish with oil in them. The oil causes a chain reaction. First harming the small fish then the larger fish and birds, then those at the top of the food chain like dolphins and sharks. Also there are humans that eat aquatic animals. There can be contaminated animals we are eating and we wouldn’t know about it. Oil spills can cause some plant life to die off as well. But most are lucky enough to recover after spills. Aquatic life gets hit really hard by oil spills. We need to figure out a way to prevent spills because we humans are going to destroy our oceans and everything in them one day.  ~Chelsea

ummmm Oil Duck, Oil Duck, Oil Duck, Oil Goose

Oil spilt in the water has caused an enormous disruption in the circle of life and the food chain, this is a huge crisis and isn't right at all animals were living quiet and peacefully but man kind has disturbed the forces of nature in their defense. I feel that unless they are looking for oil where there is no wildlife or lakes/ rivers should be illegalized but that is only my opinion.

Oil Spills & the Animals

Penguin caught in an oil spill
Oil can cause a lot of damage to both animals and the ecosystem. In this picture it is of a penguin that was caught into an oil spill and a person is trying to clean and take all the oil off the bird. Oil can damage all the animals by the weight of the liquid can bring the animals down, for example ducks and birds when they go for a swim and they swim around in the oil. When they go to take off and fly to the land the oil can make it much harder to flap their wings and can get taken under the water struggling to get back up. Oil damages the beaches and the oceans. The oil toxins the fish and sea creatures which can contaminate them and poison them. Oil spills can also cause problems to jobs like fish and shrimp industries because the oil can kill them. Without any shrimp/fish it puts the businesses out of business. If you worked in a fish/ shrimp industry you could see how it would put you out of business and then cause your family to suffer because you would not have money for food, shelter or hydro. That would be a horrible thing to go through.

Dug Up,Destroying, Deadbolted & Dieing

How much abuse can our natural resouces take. This website explains the consequences we will surely face in the future because of our carelessness,  http://dieoff.org/page116.htm. We seem locked in our own little world and we deadbolt everything we dont think we have anything to do with. We dug our oil from our earth, destroying habitats and clymaxing to the point of killing it completely. We can watch it sink but where into? Our oceans, polluting land, ruining ecosystems, killing creatures along with our resource and all we can do is watch as it pulls us down farther and farther. Pushing us us past the dangers of actually trying to make a difference! What dangers are their really, other then your lack of consideration? The websites states that soon we will be wihtout oil at are. Think throught the things you will lose. The chain of events that may happen, not being able to use your car or truck, not able to build a house or run a company, the loss of jobs and profit are only the half of it and all we do is watch.

Baffled Babies Born

(Newly Hatched Baby Bird)
This is a picture of a baby bird that just hatched during the oil spill, Not only is this bird in danger of getting coated in oil but the food he is going to get from his mother (if she is still alive) will get food from the ocean ( most likely fish) and will be contaminated, so the baby could get sick and die from the oil. If I were the mother of that bird I would take my babie away some where safe where he wont get into the icky oil.
-brennan
In this picture, Sponge Bob was caught in a oil spill. I feel bad for him because it is not his fault that people
working with oil were to stupid to realize that they were going to have a oil spill. Like Fiona said in her post, people should fly oil rather then ship it from place to place. Most of the times they ship it is sinks and kills thousands. I think this is something that can easily be prevented and should end today.

-CHASE

Why did the Oil have to spill?

Why did they have to have an oil spill... It is killing all of the animals and other living creaters that live in the water or just even live on the beach. If the oil keeps getting spilled in the ocean then more things are dying and some people are even loosing there jobs because the fish are getting caught in the oil...and some people eat the fish that the people are catching because they need food to eat. So I really think that we should try and stop iol spills before it happens again.

ash

Fly Threw The Sky To Guarante No Animals Die!

Why do they ship the oil on boats? I do not understand why they don't fly the oil. When the oil is flown there are very little risk of it harming anyone or anything. When it is shipped there is a great risk of oil spillage, like what happened in the Gulf spill. It's such a tragedy and an extreme mess to clean up. I think from now on oil, gas, and other harmful products should be flown and not shipped. I think making this change would benefit oceans, marine life, and everyone in general; because no one will have to worry about another spill. People should take a stand and protest so that these spills are guarantied to NEVER happen again.

Sticky, Dirty, Polluting and Virtually Uncontrollable= Mess

This is the BP oil rig, sinking and polluting our waters!
The BP oil spill wasn't just a spill it was a natural disaster, one that took us by suprise and took many lives. Not just of humans but our natural wildlife as well. This sticky substance can range anywhere within  a matter of hours, but have we found a way to clean it up ? Nope, we wait till it takes manny aquatic lives' and beaches to burn whats left of the natural resource we already take and abuse from our earth. With all of the money we put towards oil spills and natural disaster i find it increadibly frustrating to have to sit and watch as the oil floats to the surface wading wherever it pleases and polluting as much as it can, all that money, and all we can do is watch. When in the ocean system it cannot be controlled, rounded up, directed, or pushed to do as we plead it to do. It chooses to be resistant because of our way of life. All we seem to look at is the money we' ve lost but what about the billions of tins of oil we seem to have lost along the way. With no way too find it, but let it fully pollute the land we live breathe and walk upon. It being uncontrollable is only the beginning to the endless natural destruction these oil spills are causing.
In this picture, Zooty says: oil companies should be more responsible. I think he said that because they are messing up sometimes with the oil being shipped somewhere and it ends up all being poured into the ocean. When this happens, many wildlife and people are harmed by this. Especially ocean life. People are affected because maybe they used to swim in the water that was just polluted or they used to eat the fish. It affects the wildlife because they drink the water and eat fish and other things in the water so they could get sick and all die. It affects ocean life because they live in the water and if oil is in the water they could all suffer a horrible death. People should be more careful about the water they bring oil from one place to another and pay more attention so they don't have another spill.
-Chase
I wonder how the person/people who caused the oil spill feel. I wonder what the animals think when they cant swim and cant fly because they just swam through the water or ate something that had oil on it or in it... And the oil spill really effects the food chain because the fish drink the water and humans and animals eat the fish and they have oil in them, and then people start to get sick....
~sk

What Happened?

Look at these beatiful animals. What would you do to help if they got in an oil spill? I would help the swans by making sure they didnt get in a oil spill. No animals for that matter because a animals life is as good as a humans. Every animal should be able to live a beatiful life and live for what they live for and not get sick or die from someones miss doing and this happens.

How would you feel if your home and your street got spilled with oil and you coudnt really do anything about it. You were covered in oil and you could not take a shower. Well thats how this animal feels im guessing because everywhere he goes he is going to find. Even if the bird got away he would still be covered with oil. No more oil spills.

Riley

What would you do?

There have been many tragedies from this oil spill. Many of the lives that have been affected have been the effortless animals.

Like this bird for example. This bird probrally wanted to just go for a swim but no, this happens. There have been many birds, turtles, fish and other animals that this or something like it has happened. These poor helpless things have been dying and suffering because of one careless mistake! This shouldn't happen to these living creatures. Imagine this. You were just swimming along having a great day until you swim into this brown  gunk. Having no clue what the heck it is and have no one to help you get out or get it off. This is exactly whats happenig to these animals and it needs to stop.

-erin, :)

What for?

What for exactly?
Every time theres a oil spill they spend miliions and millions of dollars to try and fix the problem when actually its not gonna help .... sure there gonna get most of it but the rest just's sit at the bottom of the ocean for years and years and kill the wildlife that drinks the water and the fish that live in it.

Usually when theres an oil spill theres always bird and other animals that live in the water that gets caught in the oil spill and gets covered by the stuff and gets harmed.

The people never really think of the harm that the oil does to the animals so they just ignore it and try to help the humans that are on the land becuase there more important then the wildlife thats around us.

buying one bottle of dawn will save one bird that has bieng caught in a oil spill.... Dawn contains water, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium pareth-23, sulfate C-12-14-16, dimethyl amine oxide, SD alcohol, undeceth-9, propylene glycol, cyclohexandiamine, polyacetate, protease, fragrance, FD&C blue, no phosphate which helps take off the oil .

Dawn For The Win

i cannot believe that dawn dish soap can get the oil out of the animals and basically bring them back to life. I dont know what is in that soap but it must be powerful if it can remove oil. I think that the oil spill was terrible  but I am pleased with what was/is being done to save the animals like ducks, penguins and fish and I think that it is good for Dawn that they are helping all of these animals with thier bio-degradeable dish soap.
Cam W

Wanna Surf!? Oh wait.... Oil spill.

Yeah, so now that there's oil everywhere it took out all the activities that kids to parents to elderly people can dpo in their spare time. Things like taking a stroll along the beach, a refreshing swim, relaxing on the beach with the sound of the waves hitting the shore, a good surf on the tides too.

Like really, this is THE MOST disgustin picture i've found yet. Like imagine if surfing was your thing and you suffer from the oil spill now and you can't do your favourite thing. Guess it's time to find a new hobby...
-Wyatt :D

Just accidents? Or carelessness?

Water is magnificent, water provides lives, water covers 71% of our earth's surface and water is one of our most important resources, but what will we do when it is all contaminated and unsafe for drinking or for marine animals? It's true, water all over the world is getting contaminated everyday by all of our carelessness. Situations like the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico are happening way too often and they are killing our marine animals and polluting our waters. People say these things are just accidents, but these "accidents" are putting some marine animals closer to extinction and us closer to losing our water supplies. We as people need to make sure that we are protecting our water supplies and trying harder to prevent disasters like the oil spill. These animals that are suffering can't do anything about it, but we as people can solve these issues and save our water supply. Water is magnificent, so lets keep it that way!
-Kyla

Burn It Up!

I always thought that burning the oil would be helpful to the environment, but boy was I wrong! Burning the oil sends off pollutants into the air and can harm many spieces of plants and animals.

^ here is a picture of all of the black smoke coming from burning the oil.

Black smoke is never good, like when you burn plastic in your campfire. You know how much it stinks right? Imagine this. This is about 100x bigger than a  regular campfire and in the middle of the ocean! When the oil burns, some of it sinks and covers many animals with its harmful gunk.

^ deep sea coral located near the Gulf of Mexico, covered in oil
Coral, fish and many other sea and land animals are dying or bieng born deformed because of this massive oil spill. This is a real problem for some people because when they go to eat the fish and other animals from the ocean they can get oil poisoning and this can do the same thing that happens to the fish. death and possibly, deformation.

-erin, :)

Just How Much Oil Was Spilt?

I read about the BP oil spill, otherwise known as the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill on Wikipedia. In that article, it said that about 4.9 million barrels of oil was leaked into the ocean in total. That averaged of about 53,000 barrels each day. That's alot of oil. With all of that oil leaking into the ocean, which will affect the animals and humans near the ocean. When birds and other animals try and swim in this oil, they will get coated in it.  Then, when they want to clean themselves, they inhale it all and are poisoned or killed. So, if 4.9 million barrels of oil were leaked into the ocean, just how many animals were killed?

Explosion of Havoc

The BP Oil Rig Exploding

Oil Covered Hands

As we all know oil spills can be and are extremely destructive. The BP oil gusher exploded taking 11mens lives and injured 17 others. The 11 bodies were never found. Think of their heart broken families. Getting a phone call saying your husband or dad will not be coming home from work. It would be devastating. All those families were greatly impacted from this accidental oil spill that left so much havoc in its wake.  After the BP Oil Spill you think we would have learned a lot from it. But oil spills continue to occur around the world. Do we not learn anything from these disasters?  Many workers who were helping clean up the oil and residence living along the coast said they experienced headaches, dizziness, vomiting, nausea and chest pain from the oil. Tragedies like the BP Oil Spill can cause mental health problems for some people as well. Many people experienced personal and financial hardships after the spill. Humans were and can be harmed by eating contaminated aquatic animals. Some fish are still struggling to survive with the effects of the BP Oil Spill and we could be eating contaminated ocean animals.  Long term effects from the HUGE BP Oil Spill are still undetermined. Let’s just hope it is nothing too serious, or we could be in a   ton of trouble!       ~Chelsea

Dawn's Dish Soap!!

The best way to clean the wildlife that may of gotten oil on them are mostly cleaned with Dawn's dish soap. Did you know?

Dawn specifically uses anionic surfactants like alkyl dimethyl amine oxide, found in "Dawn Power Dissolver". Combined with other ingredients like viscosity adjusters, buffering agents, and processing aids, this allows the soap to wash away oil without leaving behind a residue. How nice is that, for the animals?

~autumn

Graveyard of Activities

I thought this picture was actually pretty cool because they but all the activities that they can do at the beach on crosses and stuck them in the ground, but now they lost these activities to the oil spill. Now couples can't go for a quiet stroll at night on the shore line, Little kids can't go for a refreshing swim to cool of from the scorching hot sun, no more surfers can hang out at the beach and surf for fun. I know if I lived there I would be furious that my beach is covered with slick oil and i would try and clean it up if I could in anyway. Also now fishermen can't fish because all the fish are contaminated so they wont have anyway to earn money and wont be able to provide food for his/her family. The spill is very deadly to animals and humans hopfully it will  be cleaned up soon.
-brennan:]

Imagine All The Oil In The Fish!

Look at all that oil polluting the ocean and the aquatic life in it! This is really harmful to not only the enviroment and the aqautic life but to us too! The little fish eat the oil thinking it is what they always eat therefore they now have oil in them. Then bigger fish eat these little fish, but the bigger fish eat more than one so they have a higher concentration of oil in their systems. So when even bigger fish eat multiple fish they have an even higher level of oil. The higher you go in the food chain the higher the concentration of oil there is. This means that when the food chain reaches humans and we eat these contaminated fish, we end up with an insanely high amount of oil. This could be very harmful to our bodies. So even though we may think that the oil spill anfd the contamination it did to the water would never reach us, it will. I woulde not be able to live in towns beside the coast because mt family would probably be used to eating the fish from the ocean lots. It would probably be our main source of food, but if this food supply becomes contamintaed with oil we would not have very many healthy food sources. We would probably take a very long time to adapt to not being able to eat the fish from the ocean. If we did eat the fish we would probably become infected with diseases caused by oil contamination! I could not imagine having one of our main food sources contaminated!
-Joclyn

Justice Needs To Be Served!

Look at that cute little ducky; a poor, defenseless little creature. Imagine being that little ducky, and having your whole world torn away from you. The place where you slept, eat, and played, filled with a brown ick. And now you want answers. Who did this to us? Who caused this horrific event? Why did they do this? What did I do to deserve this? These thoughts are rooming in your head while, if your lucky enough, float to shore where animal help teams and there with dawn ready get you squeaky clean! Please help poor animals like myself, and the ones who have died to get there justice. Why did this happen?!

Still Has A BIG Affect!

bp-gulf-oil-spill-fish-kill-290x425
All these dead fish aren't from a year ago when the spill actually happened this picture and these fish are from this year! The oil spill is still affect aquatic life in the ocean. I read the article that was attached to this picture and it said that when fishermen went out into the ocean they found fish with large wounds and even holes eaten right throught the tissue of their muscles. They had off coloured skin and some even had stripes when they weren't supposed to. Some of their fins were rotting away as well. This is all because of an infection due to all the oil. This oil spill clearly had and still has a big affect on the ecosystems and food chains in the ocean. The food chains that these fish were apart of will be severly damaged for quite awhile. It will take some time for this species of fish to repopulate and for all the species of above them to repopulate because they most likely woud have died out if their souerce of food was no longer healthy. It will also take time, once this species repopulates, for the species below them to get under control. If nothing was eating them they probably would have overpopulated. I never really thought about how the oil spill is still affecting aquatic life today until I seen this picture! It really made me think about how long things will take before they are back to how they used to be before the oil polluted their water.
-Joclyn

Living in the Gulf.

Hmmm... I wonder how the people of the Gulf were feeling when the oil started creeping up to their shores. I would probably be very scared, because it would pollute the water and all of the fish and marine life that live there. If the fish ate the oil, and the people ate the fish, then essentially, we would be eating oil. I wonder how bad that is for our bodies. The oil would probably make us very sick, and then theres another reason to be mad at the oil company. It kind of relates to the mercury spill. The fish eat the chemicals and the people eat the fish and get sick, and the blame is on the pulp and paper mill, or in this case, BP oil.
danessa.

Oil!!, Gross!!

Oil spill that is been spreading everywhere, people that die from the oil spill, they could be allergic. people that got killed from the oil spill by getting exploded from the boat. People may accidently swim on oil in the beach when the oil is just coming to the shoreline, people that swim may not notice oil is going to shoreline, some people may not notice, what is gonna be.

Tyrell

Why not fly it?

Why don't they just fly the oil over instead of taking weeks to get it to differnt countries. It would save alot of time and would get oil there and back faster but it wouldn't be able to carry as much oil. But they should get as many aircrafts as they can to transfer oil. Also if the plane started to leak there wouldn't be as much oil to leak and it wouldn't affect the wild life as much as the BP Oil Spill. If the plane crashed their also would be as much money lost as much as the BP Oil Spill lost.

Helping For A Better Future.

I like what Dawn is doing for the animals that get caught in a oil spill. They give a dollar to a wildlife charity for every bottle of Dawn you buy. So, if you think about it there probrably hundreds of thousands bottles of Dawn being baught each day and the charity of their choice they give it to get over $100 000 dollars a day for wild life to be at its best. So we can help and save them from this...

So, if we can save them from a life of suffering we can save them from lots of thing. So what will you do to help aniamls survive a vicious attack from an oil spill.

Riley

What caused the oil to spread?

Isn't it sad to see animals covered in oil? The oil spill comes from crude oil in the tankers, offshore platforms, drilling rigs and wills. My opinion is to keep them somewhere else safe where it can't harm anymore animals. By looking at the animals in the water makes me sad. To help clean the oil spill can be hard when you get to try it. Bioremediation Accelerator helps get rid of the oil spill by going into a long tube, once it is in a tube. It burns then it will go away.

- Angel Mc.

Imagine All The Oil In The Fish!

Look at all that oil that is contaminating the ocean and not to mention the aquatic life in it. Little fish think the oil is food so they eat it. Then when bigger fish eat them the oil gets carried into their system but that bigger fish eats more than one little fish so they have a higher concentration of oil. The higher up you go in the food chain the higher the concentration of oil is in the fish. This also means that once the food chain reaches humans the fish we eat from the contaminated ocean are filled with oil. Therefore we are eating fish with a very high level of oil in them and this is not good for our health. I would not be able to live by the coast when this oil spill happened because my family might have eaten the fish from the ocean lots because that is what was available. If the ocean and the fish in it are contaminated then we wouldn't be able to eat those fish. My family's main food supply would  basically be wiped out because if we did eat it we could become very ill.
-Joclyn

FOOD CHAIN GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So lets put this into easier terms...... BP oil rigs spills, oil goes everywhere, it KEEPS going eerywhere, lots and lots of fish poisoned from the contaminated water, fisherman go out of buisness because there is no fish to fish for, they stop making money, people who ate the fish can't eat their favourite food anymore, everything in the water is becoming contaminated, therefore, all the chains that we depend on are kind of going down the drain, litterally. If anyone can remember, This is kind of like the grassy narrows video where the aboriginals depended on the fish as their main resource for food. Now that it was popisoned by mercury its kind of gone until that mercuiry goes away. Same as this situation, some people fish for money and now that the fish are all dieing because of the oil spill and the driver's carelessness, they can't get the money that they might be living off of. Maybe, THEY COULD DIE!!! you never know these days, especially because they may have no good grades in school and that was what made them money and then i t would be even harder for them to find a new job  to work.

A Big Waste

It's just a big waste of oil. We need oil for our cars, boats, lawnmowers to work. If it is all spilling into and ocean and hurting things like fish and birds, then it is just being wasted, but worse then being wasted, it being wasted while killing underwater plants, fish and animals. But, if all of this oil is being pumped into the ocean day after day, pretty soon were gonna run out of oil. If we don't have oil then we can'drive our cars and boats.

Brendan

This could be the future.

This could be the future. If we continue to live the way we do. We could surve in oil polluted water, your can gaze at the washed up marine life, or you can simply admire the brown ocean, that used to be royal blue. Gross. Has anyone stopped to think that THIS is what our future could be like if we continue our carless ways? We need to change! We need to be more careful and cautious when we use oil. We can use electric powered boats, instead of gas powered ones, and dispose of hasardous chemicals properly so they DON'T end up in the water. Little things like this will make a difference one day. Take a good look at these pictures, because one day, they could be our future if we don't change!

What happened to "Learning a lesson"?

It seems that these oil spills aren't stopping.  People say that they realize the consequences and everything these spills are causing.  So why are they still happening?  The one in the gulf last year was horrible.  Marine life, animals, environment, economy, health... the oil spills affect everything!  It was said that the oil was spreading to the shores, and fast.  The reputation of resorts on the ocean were getting worse.  People were cancelling trips because they assumed that the beaches would be absolutely disgusting, even if they weren't.  But I mean, you can't really blame them.  Look at the waters, and with the current, it would be expected to travel to the shores, and I guess some people just didn't want to risk that.  So look at all that these spills affect.  People cancelling vacations, resorts having to deal with these cancellations, animals dying, people spending tons of money to try and fix the problem, the list goes on!  So enough with all of this, shouldn't we be learning from our mistakes, and preventing oil spills?  People need to figure out what went wrong, and make sure it doesn't happen again, because before we know it, it won't be salt water, it'll be oceans covered in oil.
-emmy,
Hello, My name is grease. They call me that because i`m all sticky from this oily black stuff that covers my wings. So I have pone question for you today; does anyone care about the numbers of wildlife this BP oil spill is killing? NO! we're to worried about ohhhh!!!! it's gonna hit the marshes and destroy a tourist place. Like really guys, Thanks.... I know that I'm just a duck but i do have a life to :/ I've been on google lately and there's pictures all over it of my buds and myself full of oil from this oil spill but nobody cares or tries and help us because they're to worried about that precious wetland. Poor Bird

This bird was just doing his normal thing and then it gets stoppped and dies from an oil spill. And not being able to do anything to get away from the oil. When you are driving a car and a bird is infront of you in the middle of the road it usually flys but there it couldnt cause it was to soaked in oil. Imagine that when something is after you, you would usually but not being able to that would suck and thats how that birdie felt.

If it's not their fault, so why do they get affected?

What would you do if your habitat was destroyed by some unexplainable oil. If all your family and friends started dying because they got caught in the oil and you are not sure what is going on? This is probably how many animals feel about the oil spill that occured in the Gulf of Mexico.

^ imagine how this turtle felt when he first got in contact with the oil, confused and suffering this turtle amoung many others, lost it's life.

It's really not fair that these animals lost their lives and they didn't even do anything wrong. We as people need to make sure that stuff like these oil spills don't happen often or else we could possibly cause extinction of certain species of animals!

Natural Resources

The one thing that really bothers me about oil spills, is that its wasting our planets natural resources. We don't have a never ending supply of oil. If millions of gallons of oil are being spilled into our oceans, thats a waste of something we should charish because, years from now, we may run out of oil. Or thats what they say on discover channel. If its true that we are going to run out of oil one day, why do people use it so carelessly? Polluting our oceans, air, lakes, and rivers. Natural Resources should be used for good not evil. And when we take them and waste them by polluting our planet, its going to backfire on us years from now!

Caught up in the Oil

Picture this. Your sitting at home with your family when all of a sudden your house is filled with gooey, sticky oil. Trapping you and your family inside. You try to get out, but you can't move. Your completely helpless. This is what the animals caught up in the oil spills felt like. They can't move or get food. They're just left their to starve to death. A slow and painful death. Although some survive with the help of people, getting them out of the oil and cleaning them off. But they can't clean every animal in and around the sea. So most animals die. But oil spills can be prevented. The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico was just a mistake. But if we learn from our mistakes an oil spill as bad as that should never happen again. But if it does we'll be ready.

The Affects Oil Spills Have on Animals!!

There are a lot of affects on the animals due to oil spills. It causes birds to die because when there feathers are covered in the oil and they try to clean themselves off, in which then they are poisoned. Then die a show and painful death. How sad is that? Oil also can cause the death of an animal by entering the animal’s lungs or liver.
Just image that you were a kill whale and you when up to take a breath and you see a steam of dark thick oil coming your way. Then you go back under the water and you see other living organisms dying one be one. How scary is that?

PENGUIN SWEATERS!! :)

Penguins in sweaters?!?! Yes, its true.

Penguin sweaters were created in 2000, when a oil spill near McPhillips Australia threatened the "fairy penguins" off the edge of exsistance. Fairy Penguins are the smallest bird of their species, weighing on average 2-3 pounds.  Penguin sweaters are designed for penguins who are caught in oil spills, considering that after a animal is caught in an oil spill, they need to be captured and cleaned.. and this may take a while, so to help with this process people came up with penguin sweaters! Penguin sweaters help the penguins by when they "preen" which means try to clean there feathers which would prevent them from swallowing the oil, which would most likely lead to death. Also it helps the penguins because the oil destroys there natural oils, and when the natural oils are gone so are there natural body heat. After the penguins are cleaned and put into a rehabilitation center , they are sent back home, with there natural feathers!

I think this is a fantastic invention, that makes me ponder the idea of whether or not, we can make more solutions that can be as simple as this, to help preserve our wildlife caught in oil spills?

A Heavenly Cost

Close your eyes. You live in a world of millions of people. You go to school, you play sports and you socialize with friends. Now imagine one day, your world was turned around, all because of a spill. I know what you're thinking... How could someone possibly wipe out an entire population with just one spill? Well it can happen, it did happen, and it will happen again. Now open your eyes. You may be able to relate to some of the fish and aquatic life that help to keep our eco-systems going. The living things in the waters are not recognized as much as they should be, until tragedy strikes. Oil spills start with the weakest animals. Once that animal is completely instinct, their prey has no more food to hunt for and so on and so forth. Eventually, every breathing creature will fight to their last breath. We need to pay more attention to lives that aren't our own. The sad part is, it take's an oil spill to realize that. Of course, oil spills are a lot of money, infact, it costs most aquatics their lives.

Fish, fish, and more fish.

Fish and even more fish are being contaminated or dying because of digestion or breathing in the oil. These fish are being caught by fishermen and getting people sick! Oil in Anyones system isn't good. Fishermen are losing business because there are hardly any fish left!

Poor Birdy :(

They should'nt have to go through that. That would be such a painful and gross death. It's cruel and inhumaine. We need to do something! Anything! It's killing more then just birds, it's killing mirane life. A dog wouldn't see it. They might smell the oil but if it's like my incredibly "smart" dog, they might go swimming in the contaminated water. Would you like to see your dog in the same position as those birds? No, I know i would'nt.-Krissy

Burn It Upp!

I thought burning the oil would be a logical idea! Burning the oil so it doesn't damage the marine life anymore then it already has, and then when its gone the ocean waters will put it out itself! Until I realized  how much air pollution it gives out! It is OUTRAGEOUS how much burning oil pollutes the air! And now, I am left pondering for a solution that doesn't kill marine life, and also doesn't harm the environment! It is almost impossible to please everyone! I feel terrible for the people in charge of cleaning up this spill, but in all honesty, it shouldn't of happened in the first place! It interests me who is at fault for this spill. I wonder if they even feel guilty for all the damage they caused.
